I've had glasses I have loved from an independent. Can't say the same about spec savers. I've only used them once. I got two pairs and the pair I wore least fell apart. I also had an independent optician offering buy one get one free so I had a pair of prescription sunglasses.

I needed to buy a tv, my friend tried selling me one out of her husband's lock up garage. I didn't want to buy a tv from a lock up (friend or no friend) so I went to Argos.

To be honest, I've never thought much of Specsavers/Optical Express etc. I'd rather use an independent, not that I have before.

I meant I don't want my group of friends to go elsewhere! But I get your point.

Just thought I'd update this thread. I did go to my friend, who during the consultation, with no prompting at all, said that I should ignore the prices on the glasses on display as she would let me have whatever I chose at cost price. So I have a gorgeous new pair of glasses for a really good price! I'm thrilled!
