New SD card formatting

I have bought a new SD card and I slotted it into my laptop. Windows is asking me to format the disk. Can I format the disk?

I want to load some MP3 songs to the disk first, but I want to use the memory card in my camera as well. Is this both possible? Will the camera read a formatted disk?
The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

  • Right click the sd on my computer and click format. You will lose everything on the sd card if there is anything.
  • But will I be able to use it my camera after that? Or will it not work?

If you save some thing to it from your camera, you will probably see that it has some folders added to it when you access it from the pc.My card can be read while it is in the camera and a usb lead plugs into the pc and camera to download the pics.
If I put it in my card reader the folders are still there. You only need to have the camera folder on it to let the camera use it.You can have another folder for the mp3 player to use.

It's better for you to format it using your camera itself....(my digicam has this function). This is because the camera will need to add certain folders to the sd card.
  • I figured out what was wrong with it - it was my driver with my laptop. Got Windows to update the driver and the SD card was read without any problems.

    Thanks for all your help
