Sun Holiday Nightmare -dirty dusty mouldy accommodation and Asthma patient

Hello,

We booked a Camber Sands holiday with the £9.50 Sun holidays only to discover the dreadful reviews on Tripadvisor all pointing out the extremely poor levels of hygiene of the accommation with mould, dirt and dust in all chalets.

My daughter and myself suffer from Asthma and dust and mould can trigger severe attacks. I have called the Sun booking office to point this out only to be met that they're not responsible for the quality of the accommodation and to contact the holiday operator direct.

Can anyone advise what to do, surely they have a certain duty of care, the customer service representative did confirm that they have received complaints of a similar nature about the accommodation in question.

I actually have not been but I have read all reviews and I have spoken with a person who has been there who left after 3 hours as the accommodation was filthy.

Speaking from experience, if 95% of reviews are extremely bad, it will be representative of the truth.

I do realise it is not the Ritz but I would expect a reasonable level of cleanliness and no mould in rooms.

at the end of the day you only spend the nights in the accom we were advised to take some cleaning products down and give it a clean thats what we did i have asthma and i had no problems what so ever

im not sure of many people who spend all day in their appartments in those places so youll be out and about a lot

if you get there and its not to your likeing then complain the staff are always willing to help and maybe able to find you alternative accomadation

if you manage to look past the negativity youll actually enjoy the holiday

You must be extremely easy going if you would except dirty accommodation and are prepared to take cleaning products and clean it yourself.

To the OP. You are right to be concerned reading the reviews on trip advisor. It is not a small minority who have left bad reviews.

You shouldn't have to put up with dirty accommodation, regardless of how much you pay.

I am quite easy going but there is no way I am going to take my own cleaning materials and clean the apartment. Apart from the fact, it should be clean at the very least in the first place I cannot be in a dusty, mouldy environment.

I am not sure what my rights are or how to proceed. Advice would be appreciated.

A couple of friends have been to this site on two separate occasions. Both were in dirty, moldy caravans.

Maybe call the Sun helpline first and voice your concerns. See if they will let you transfer your booking to another site.

If not I would take it up with the site directly but not sure what you can actually do until you get there and are (possibly) placed in a moldy caravan??

    Good luck.

You could try contacting the site before you go and ask very nicely if they could please make sure your apartment is suitably clean due to the health reasons you have stated.

We once had a letter from Haven after we complained on site about the filthy caravans they put us in(they did move us). The letter said to contact them if we book again, before we go, and they would ensure we received a clean caravan.

i have contacted the Sun and I have to write a letter now.

I have emailed the park in question too, I have not received a reply as of yet.

Getting quite worried about this, it is the only holiday we can take as my daughter is going to school for the first time in September so holidays will be too expensive for us otherwise.

It is more an issue with the site rather than the sun- they just advertise the deals and slot people into various sites. Firstly I would contact the park to express your concerns. Stay open minded and if there are problems when you get there then speak up straight away.

I've been on lots of sun deals and never had a problem with cleanliness. Just remember, people tend to only write reviews if they have had a bad time, less so if they enjoyed it.

The Sun actually received complaints about this site so I think they should not include it in their promotion. I think a promoter has a legal and ethical responsibly regarding the resorts they promote and knowingly promoting accommodation that breaches health and safety regulations is certainly immoral in my opinion.

I am all for keeping an open mind but if I drive to Camber for two hours only to find dirty accommodation, it will mean I will have to drive home again with a very upset 4 year old in tow.

My daughter and I simply cannot stay in dirty accommodation as it can trigger a severe asthma attack which can end up in A&E, not exactly my idea of a fun weekend break.
