Cheap trips to France on P&O ferry

Has everyone seen this Daily Mail offer? (I can't post a link, but just Google for "Enjoy a daytrip to the Continent for just £1", it's the first result, at poferries.com)

It describes very cheap day trips and overnight trips.

My question is: How do they know how long you've stayed in France when you use the return ticket? Couldn't you just buy two £1 deals, use one going there, and use the other one coming back a few days later?

nope, the ferry companies are getting wise to that and apparently charge you the full price of the leg not taken. Isn't that offer for foot passengers anyhow?
