Have just learned that my (11 year old terrier) baby has liver cancer. They think she probably has around six months. She is currently very well, which has made it such a shock. We took her in because she had a swollen hard abdomen but never expected to hear she had cancer.
I guess it is something we have to go through as dog owners, this is my first time, but oh boy is it hard.

Oh no, that's really horrible news. I hope that she doesn't suffer and that all your remaining days together are happy.0

Thanks for the support and hugs. I have heard that changes in diet can help to prolong her life, such as reducing carbs and increasing protein. If anyone knows anything about this I would be grateful for any advice. We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0

I'm so sorry to hear this:( - wishing you lots of sunny days together.
My elderly lab has several "nasty" lumps so know what you're going through - but with his age etc, there is no way it would be fair to start "playing around" with him.
He's happy and they don't seem to bother him at all and, as long as that is the case, we'll cherish every extra day we have.
So, my prescription, lots of extra cuddles and treat each day as a bonus (((hugs))).Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Oh I am so sorry to hear that your little dog has cancer. We lost our 14 year old scottie last July - he had had cancer for over a year. The vet was amazed at how well he lasted - I was so upset over him and can still get really upset if I think about it too much, but just try and keep him as pain free as possible and hope for the best. The vet thought our Angus would only last a couple of months and he went on, pain free and okay, for nearly 18 months after diagnosis.Jane

I am so sorry to hear you news. I wish you lots of happy walks together. My dog is a big part of my life now and I dont look forward to the day we part. Keep smiling. x0

Sorry to hear that.
My cavalier king charles spaniel Louis was diagnosed last August, and the vet gave us Denamarin tablets which are a supplement that supports the liver, and he is also on a Royal Canin hepatic diet.
He is lasting well so far, but we know he can't have long left, so are just trying to give him as good a time as possible and spoil him.0 -
Oh, Im so very sorry. Ive been through it many times and it doesnt get any easier. One thing I would say is, try not to mourn now while you still have your little one. make the most of every day and fill it with fun - you will have time to mourn later but you will also have many good memories.
God bless xxx0
