While i am waiting for the outcome from the insurance, do i have a "right" to the salvage back if my car is written off or is it down to the insurance company?

When I had a car written off I was able to scrap it and got £400.

    Nice wee bonus.

When a car is written off the car and its number plate (unless insurance company is advised you wish to reatin plate) become the property of the insurance company. You can try and buy it from them.

I was just told to go ahead and dispose of mine however I saw fit.

Got £100 despite it being an utter wreck.

That's true if you accept the offer that the insurance company make and pay out for it, but if you suggest to them before they have paid out they may be open to negotiation.

Depends on the policy and the amount of damage. If the vehicle is unsafe to be put back on the road they
may refuse. Unless your policy actually has this clause built in. Lots of classic policies do.

Also is your insurance paying out or a 3rd party? 3rd party more likely to let you keep it or
dispose of it yourself without having to ask.
