Home cinema question is it faulty?????

Hi my other half bought me a Sony Davdz111 home cinema / dvd kit for xmas:
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5335093.htm
However I am unsure as it is faulty;
When you play a dvd , can you hear sound from dvd playing through your tv? I have mine connected via scart, and can only get sound through the surround speakers, not the TV (wiould like to sometimes not use surround speakers - only tv speakers like at night so not so loud)
Lastly, the dvd player seems to take a while reading disc at beginning, and changing scenes. My old bush dvd player is a lot quicker. (playing interactive dvd game is a nightmare sometimes 10 seconds to access a different scene)
Any advice ?????????
Thanks for all advice and have a great new year
TB

Sony dvd's are notoriously bad. I was £250 for a surround sound Sony dvd player a few years ago and the dvd part worked for just over a year. Google Sony dvd's and you'll see.
I use a cheap dvd recorder hooked up with it now, so I can at least use the surround sound part. You're supposed to turn down the volume on your tv anyway (but I still get the volume on our tv if I want)
My advice is to take it back, say it's faulty and get another one (not Sony!)0 -

Right its going back now! thanks good thing is that Argos states that the player has 2 scart sockets but ACTUALLY only has 1!! Only problem is that other half bought it on 24 November. Will see if they refund,
Just found this on Comet.co.uk spec seems much much better!!

After having 2 Playstations 2's and the dvd player all stopping reading discs I have no faith in Sony, so I read up on them. I always thought Sony was one of the best.
Good luck!0 -
I've got a Samsung ht-q20 and its a DVD player/surround sound and it works fine. I can switch off the Surround sound and have sound through the TV and vice versa.
Also in my bedroom I have a £30 DVD Player and an ASDA £30 Surround sound and that workd perfect as well.
B ut I do find the Samsung produces brtter sound. Cost=quality?:rotfl: :j :T :bdaycake: :xmastree: :bdaycake: :T :j :rotfl:0 -

Well I took the sony back to Argos and got refund.
Went to Comet and bought the panasonic for £209.99 (was £249). I can tell you it was worth it. Much better sound quality and quicker disc access speed.
And the sound can also go through the tv too
Many many thanks for your help and have a great new year folks!!!!
