I have encountered this as well - I was bought a laptop case and wanted to exchange it for a bigger size - they refused even though it still had their store label on.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. all shops have the policy where if you return a product bought by credit/debit card the refund must be put back onto the exact same card
and no receipt no exchange/refund is the same for all shops
but what are you to do at christmas if you get a present from someone(eg a secret santa) and you have it or you dont like it, what are you meant to do with it,
it would be easier if we gave cash as a present for xmas,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
I like the Woolworths idea of giving "Gift Receipts". They print an extra receipt which has everything except the price. You can then include this with the present to make exchanges easier.[size=-2] If this post was unhelpful, please tell me.

Debenhams do this too, I get them :-)0 -
It has to go back onto the EXACT SAME DEBIT CARD. Apparently this is in case someone finds a receipt in the street, goes home to get the exact same books and takes them back fraudulently(!)
Ahh! I wondered why this was the case with debit cards. I thought the reason they did it with credit card, was in case people were trying a back door way of getting cash back with out paying the advance.0 -
I got an electric blanket for Xmas - more for the other half than me, honest.
I wanted the next model up, so tried to return it, but they say it's exempt from their money back guarantee, even though I have the receipt, coz it's been opened.
Even though it has not been used, they say for hygiene reasons I cannot return it.
Any similar experiences or advice ? Other than 2just use the once you were given."Karma is a wonderful thing.0 -

WHS has exchanged books for me without a receipt in the past.
M&S have changed their policy this Xmas though. I was bought some stuff which didn't fit. I went in on the first day they opened after Xmas to exchange and they didn't have my size and the sale had started. Without the receipt you now only get the reduced price as a credit voucher not the full price paid. In light of this policy I will no longer by M&S gifts for family and friends as I'm awful for losing receipts for presents. Next will get more of my business as they still give full selling price credit on gifts as they mark sale items with red ink.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

The rule regarding refunds on debit or credit cards is, I believe, a regulation by the card companies and not the stores. Something to do with money laundering.0
