Ah, Santander

Oh how I love you Santander, no sooner than I get my wages into my account, 30 minutes later you take out a £92.50 bank charge.
45 minute phone call later, one of your lovely staff members admits its a mistake, refunds the money and cancels another £25 charge that was about to come out... again, a mistake.
Were you hoping I'd just not notice? How many other 'mistakes' have they been that I've not noticed?
At least let me pull my pants down first, you naughty, naughty bank.

I love Santander.
They have to be the HARDEST bank to close an account with:
Clear balance, phone... "Yes sir, I'll close your account now."
Two weeks go by, statement comes through, account is -£200.
Phone, yell, rant, rave, get no-where, have to clear balance, "Yes sir, I'll close your account now. There, all done."
Two weeks later...
Rinse and repeat.0 -
it's all the fault of the overseas call centres.0

To be fair to Santander they closed mine down at the first time of asking.
I'd underpaid my overdraft by 81p and they duly they slapped on £100 of charges. I rang them up and spoke to a bloke who refunded them, took the 81p off another card (although I had to pay £5 as minimum card payment) and then closed the account.
It was touch and go for a couple of weeks, especially as I got a statement last week saying that another £60 of charges were due out, but this morning I received a letter and a cheque. Account closed :j0 -

It took me nearly three hours at my local branch, refusing to leave until the bloke on the phone sorted it out! Finally got £495 refunded.
Apparently what was happening is my account was being set to close, but charges kept sneaking through, and the people who were closing the account weren't checking for any pending transactions, I didn't even live at the same address anymore so I wasn't getting any letters demanding money.
Of course, even after they admitted the mistake (they listened to the recorded calls, apparently), it still shows on my credit report as 4 months in arrears. Bah.0
