Looking through the catalogue, it seems Argos own brand is Wharfedale. Does anyone know which company manufacture this brand. I presume it will be one of the well known brands, but which one? Has anyone any views about the products? I'm considering a HD DVD recorder. Had a Sony but it broke down after 6 months. Got my money back but now unsure whether one of "best manufacturers " are the best buy. (best as in "reliability but not tooooo expensive")

morning kitykat
whardale are not Argos' on brand but a manufacturer on ther on
goto http://www.wharfedale.co.uk/home.php and take a look
used to have some wharfdale speakers and they are good quality
but dont know about about the dvd players
hope this helps0 -
The name Wharfedale used to be linked to quality electronics, specifically speakers, but these days it is an 'economy' brand and as it is part of a larger group, I don't think you can expect the same sort of quality across the range.0

For what it's worth I would recomend Panasonic for DVD recorders because I have one. Wharfedale as said in reply by tallymanjohn"Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0

years ago my dad had wharfedale speakers and they were one of top brands0

I too remember Wharfedale as being a premium player in the Hi-Fi market, so I had no hesitation buying their 42 inch LCD tv reduced to £699.99. In fact I purchased 2, one for myself and one for my son. Alas, I had to return both within a week as they developed faults.
I learned two things through this experience,
Cheapest is not always best.
Wharfedale are now poor quality.
I would advise staying clear of the cheap makes when considering electronics.

Ah, thanks folks, think I might avoid Wharfedale. I got a Sony 6 months ago and its completely kiboshed. Luckily got my money back, but it does go to show that you can get a dud even with the top brands. However , think I'll do a bit more research.:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0
