There's also the issue of 'what sort of employee do you want'?
Unless you're recruiting for really key, specialist or senior roles, many companies are happy to hire someone who's 'good enough'. They don't need 'the best'. Indeed, recruiting the best person can often lead to difficulties, as that person might be so good, they get bored and move on.
If I want a good administrator, who does a sturdy job and causes me no hassle, I don't need a super-PA. Someone on a good recommendation will do. If I trust the person making the recommendation it makes my life easier, and I don't have to take the time out to recruit.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
never employ a friend or family member - think what you would do if you had to fire them or they took advantage of you!?0

I've got a couple of jobs through family connections... and it was a huge helping hand. I did feel slightly like a fraud... but after being declined in simply loads of other applications, I needed to get a job somewhere, and in both cases I still had to attend interview and go through the usual process to show that I was at least competent. It wasn't simply a job on a plate in either case.:www: Progress Report :www:
Offer accepted: £107'000
Deposit: £23'000
Mortgage approved for: £84'000
Exchanged: 2/3/16
:T ... complete on 9/3/16 ... :T0 -

JIM - it was a job on a plate, as soon as they call you in for a interview because you are recommed you laready way above everyone else, plus you problay the first or only person they call in for interview for that job.
and unless you d o soemthing very stupid you hired.0 -
say i own a comapny and my son has a friend who wants a job there, will i hire him.
well in most cases yes.
but there are loads of better candiates who could make more money for company and more expriinced., yet i still hire my sons friend why do people do this.
If someone recommends someone to me, and I like the look of them, I'm going to assume they've got similar values to the one who recommended them. And it saves me wasting days looking through thousands of CVs, with no guarantee I'll find anyone better. And it can help with my own networking if I, say, employ the daughter of a guy I do business with, because he then owes me a favour. Or if an employee recommends someone he used to work with, I know already that they get on and will work well together. Lots of reasons, it's the way of the world. The only way to stop it is to get computers to do the entire selection process.0 -
Getting a job through a friend would be great, if I had some friends that weren't colleagues at my old job0

unfortunately this is part of the reason why british companies are so incompetent when they are full of employees who got the job through connections and family rather than actually having the required skills. this is especially ironic considering the millions of unemployed skilled workers we have available.Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0
