13 week review questions

At the 13 week jobcentre review, can you insist on only going for permanent jobs and do you have to drop your salary expectations from what you agreed when you first signed on.

Thanks

Not the answers you may want to hear but no to your first question and yes to your second question.

My 13 week review didn't change any of my Jobseekers agreement or what I would apply for. I got a bit stressed about the whole thing and it ended up being the most useful appointment I'd ever had in the place!

I see him for the second time on Wednesday and I'm not dreading it for once.

Ironically I have actually been applying for permanent jobs on less money for a bit more security, rather than temporary and having to keep chasing the next job.

They will look at your agreement and see if you are being reasonable. I was asked to look further afield (90mins travel instead of 60) and to drop my salary range by £2k. He also asked me to add a third catagory to my areas of work to look for. I wasn't told that I need to look for temporary work but it does depend on your situation and type of work you do.

Mostly he was nicer than the adviser I saw fortnightly.

My agreement was also revised. I was instructed to start considering jobs involving travelling further, less salary, more hours (I was P/T in previous job) and look at other fields of work within my capability.

In short, the original agreement which, to my previous job, had been: similar travelling distance, same salary (or more), similar hours, my previous field of work.........all revised at 13 weeks.

The advisor printed off a couple of F/T jobs, miles away, on just above minimum wage which he thought might suit me and said I must apply (as they would check), so I did. I sent off bog standard CV's which stood no chance of getting shortlisted.

5 months unemployed, 3 on the dole - I found my own opportunities, interviews, shortlisted, job offer.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

Anybody filled out the 'looking for work' questionnaire or been stuck on a 4 week MWRA yet?

Well i was told I would have to take minimum wage, a drop of about £7k from my previous salary, apply for temporary jobs and travel 90 minutes.

I had to apply for two jobs that was found for me, one of them was three hours away by public transport. :(

I had to drop mine from £24,400k my last job to minimum wage! What a joke as no one will interview me at £11,600k!!

And then travel for 90 mins each way

Just back from my second appointment with my new advisor and he still couldn't be more helpful. No mention of dropping my salary expectations, rail warrant fro interview in London issued then and there, happy to sort out a travelcard for London transport if I do get a job down there (I'm in Edinburgh).

I actually quite like seeing him!

I do wonder though whether it is partly down to their experience, he's been doing it for 25 years I think so has obviously seen it all, including other recessions and so is maybe a bit less gung ho about changing things.
