Mexico departure tax

Hi, I have just booked 2 weeks in Mexico and just wondered if anyone could confirm how much the tax is and how you can pay it as the travel agent said you could only use local currency not USD or GBP but what I have seen it is only USD that they no longer allow you to pay with? Also which is the best trip to swim with the dolphins and do you think my son who is nearly 8 would be too young (he is a strong swimmer). Many thanks, Chris

we are also booked to go this year and have so far been told by first choice to only take Mexican Peso to the airport for our departure tax. We were there a few years back and can vaguely remember paying it at the airport as we left.

As for the swimming with dolphins, we are booked to take our 4 and 5 year old who are only just starting to swim. They provide swim float jackets for everyone and i can remember a 3 year old doing it the last time and she was ok holding to her mum etc and then sitting on the side during it, think they try and cater for the young ones and those who are not strong swimmers. we used Dolphin Discovery last time over on Cozumel and was great fun and good day out (think it was around 90 each the last time to do the full package and around 50 for the video to buy)cant remember if that was usd or peso though!
    Will be fab, enjoy it!

i went here when i went to mexico, although i didn't do the swimming with dolphins, they do do that there. but it really is a beautiful place to swim with fish. you do not need to be able to swim as everyone is supplied with a life jacket.
dh enjoyed it and he can only do 10metres dggy paddle :D

I went to Cancun in May/June. Despite all the reps books saying tax was 640 pesos it was actually 700 at the airport (annoying as I had put aside the pesos, luckily after finding some coins I got upto the 700) You could also pay in pounds (£38 I think) and US $ ($58)

I've just got back from Mexico, yesterday actually. It is 700 pesos departure tax. We went to Xel-Ha, it was lovely, especially swimming with the Manatees.
