How do I fill a hole in the wall??

Options
Evening...
I have a problem and my dad is away on holiday at the moment :rotfl:
We are moving out next Monday and part of the contract states we have to make good.
Packing at the weekend I made a hole in the plasterboard, it is a bit jagged and gone right through to a void behind the board which is about 8mm thick perhaps.
The hole is appx 5/6cm across.
What do I do?!
I really have no idea :D

I have never tried this but search the internet and you will find explanations which revolve around gluing a piece of wood or similar onto the back side of the panel. You cut the wood the right size so it can go through the hole, then rotate it and glue, using string or a screw to pull the patch towards the plasterboard. Then you patch with a substance such as Easi-fill. I've patched plaster walls, but not plasterboard. See here:

As I say, I recommend you fill with Easi-fill from a builders merchants or B&Q. Polyfilla etc are hard to sand. Easi-fill mixes easily with a wooden spoon, make it thick, then you apply it with a scraper/spreader tool. You might need two layers, a filler layer, leave it a day, then a patch layer, and then gentle sanding with (I think) 150 grade sandpaper. Don't throw the waste Easi-fill down the sink, it MIGHT block even though it is water soluble, bag it and bin it.

This is not a hard job if you work out what you have to do, then carefully do the job one bit at a time. If you are not reasonably dextrous (good with your hands) then you might want to leave it to your dad, or the landlord. If the latter is a builder, then he will know it is not hard to patch. Better small damage than a large bodge.

For a smallish hole, you could probably get away with corrugated cardboard (get a box from aldi/lidl/supermarket).

Cut it to a size slightly longer than the hole in one direction, slightly narrower across the perpendicular direction, so it will go in the hole.

Thread some string / cotton through 2 hole and loop it so when you manoevre the card into the hole you can pull it back to the right position.

before you push it through, cover the edges with no-more nails or other similar glue.

Push the card through, use the string to pull it into position, hold it for a bit until it sets. Then leave it a few hours.

Fill with pollyfilla type stuff - only a half layer at first application, and don't push it in too hard or the card might push away. Refill 4 hours later to level with the surface, using water to wet the blade/knife to get a smooth finish.
