If it's deliberate then it's a breach of the terms and conditions and could lead to cancellation of the card (although very unlikely).

The higher the value in credit the more likely it is that some form of action will be taken.

I overpaid by a few pounds on an mbna card to ensure that the interest charge on the next statement would already be paid for. The remaining credit stayed for months until I eventually spent it.
A supplier refund on my egg money card created a £50 credit balance because the full statement balance was already being taken by direct debit. egg paid the money back into my bank account without charge, once I asked for it.
