I need to find out what savings/investment rates were available in 2008 - specifically long term savings bonds. I have tried to find this info out but no luck so far. Does anybody know of a site that lists historic (UK) savings/bond rates that were available in 2008? I'm struggling, looking at individual bank sites - everything seems geared towards the current time (i.e. 2011).

Not sure how the stats are calculated but here are some from the Bank Of England.

Cheshire Building Society Sept 2008 was offering 6.8% for a 3-year bond.0 -
Which deposit takers are you interested in? We all know what happened to IceSave.0

Kaupthing Edge was offering 7.15% (I think) on one year bonds around Aug/Sept 2008. A bit less on longer term bonds.0

Back in 2008 I got 7.67% gross with Kaupthing Edge (transfered over to ING during the 3 year fixed term when KE got into difficulties) it matures end of Sept 2011
Old rates also discussed in this thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3149158=Never let the perfume of the premium overpower the odour of the risk0 -

Principality 9 month 6.85%
Yorkshire 2 year 6.50%
Chelsea 2 year 6.50%
Derbyshire 2 year 7.01%
Hanley 2 year 7.00%

That would be a great link if they weren't discontinued in 2008!
Here are some more figures, unfortunately these aren't bonds

according to this average savings rates were 5% in 2008, but they must have dropped rapidly sometime during 08/090 -

The question was about 2008!
What are you looking at? The stats that I was looking at are still being gathered.
"Monthly interest rate of UK monetary financial institutions (excl. Central Bank) sterling fixed rate bond deposits from households (in percent) not seasonally adjusted.

Just gone back to my spreadsheet from Aug/Sept 2008. Lots of fixed rates in the 6.5% to 7.2% range - many one year. Still running from that year I have a 3 year Yorkshire BS at 7.22% and a 5 year BM at 5.15%, both opened late Oct/early Nov 2008 I can give you more info if you need it!0

State Bank of India offered 7.5% for 5 years in late 2008.0

I notice that for a few days after a newbie starts posting there is an alert below their name asking everyone to be nice to them.
Perhaps they (including the OP of this thread) should also receive a message pointing out that if others take some time to reply to their query, the least they could do is click the "Thanks" button where appropriate, or better still, post a follow-up."The trouble with quotations on the Internet is that you never know whether they are genuine" - Charles Dickens0
