Old laptop to new

Hello all

I posted last week about wanting a new laptop and have now got a nice shiney new Acer. But have a few questions:

- Is there an easy way to transfer stuff over from my old laptop (Itunes, pics, work etc)?

- Is there a way to transfer my internet favourites?

- I was using firefox on old one cos IE never worked properly. New one has IE so is it worth changing to Firefox as IE is working okay?

- Once I have taken all my stuff off old laptop what should I do with it?! It is old and slow so not really worth selling? Can I recycle it?

Thanks all :)

What operating system do you have on the old laptop? Do you have both laptops connected to a network?

For the browser, you can have as many as you like

For the bookmarks in firefox, click bookmarks, organise bookmarks, click import and back up, export the bookmarks as an HTML file, then load that on to the other laptop and do the same but import the HTML file instead

    for questions 1-3 :
Windows usually comes with a "File Transfer Wizard"
it will help you copy data (and some programs) form your old machine to your new one.

it usually involves setting up a USB stick or bootable CD to tell the old machine to copy the users data to a file for the New machine to pick up and get all the settings.

    question 4:
check with local schools or charities, their may be some that use them for training or for charity.

Do they both share the same internet connection?

Download this on to your XP laptop and choose what you want to copy.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/windows-easy-transfer

You can then transfer what you have selected by CD/DVD, USB stick, external hard drive or network.

In the Start menu on the new laptop, select Network and see if the old laptop shows as an icon in the window that opens.
