need some teckie help with microphone issue

hey guys i have some trouble with my microphone.

heres the back ground.

graphics card went to pixel heaven on me during a game of CODBO.

computer unsuable so three weeks later saved up got my new card and now computer works fine.

went to have a TS3 convo online with a few of my mates, they couldnt hear me, done some investigation, whilst my microphone was still detected under windows 7 and showing as working fine the sound wasnt being picked up from a distance of about 20 inches (it had no problems before this) with settings on 10Db boost. slammed it up to 30 thinking go high work my way down so that my friends could here me fine with out busting their ear drums. bust shocked to find that they could only hear faintly moved mirophone close now only 5 inches away from me and still i sounded distant and voice only transmitted intermittantly, so only on shouting with the mic at 1 inch away the could here a full transmition at a level they could hear.

my mic was an old one and i though OK it bitten the dust get a new one things be ok, so i have a better mic now but still nothing has changed??

so thinking drivers, checked the drivers and i'm using the microsoft HD audio drivers, i have on board realtek sound device and these drivers were missing from what i was using before the GFX card change over, went hunting my programs and they werent there anymore, so checked device manager and its seems under sound and game controllers theres only the microsoft HD audio drivers there so must have been uninstalled as theres no trace of any of realteks drivers there anymore not even in my programs.

i though windows used legacy audio codecs?? because thats what used to be there under device manager for my sound along with realteks audio drivers.

anyway went off got my realtek drivers for my onbourd sound chip, disable the hd audio ones in device manager and left the realtek ones enabled for sound and recording and playback and still the same outcome??

checked DXDIAG no sound issues detected and all working.

only thing that changed was GFX card being connected directly to hdmi to hdmi, so switched back to dvi-hdmi connector and then to hdmi connector on tv and went through the above process no change.

Have you tried using the audio drivers here?

wrong chipset, P45 chipset i have not Q45. yes i have the drivers for my board but they make no difference, i started to think it maybe the HDMI cable taking preference over any other setting, started by disabling the hdmi audio in nvidia settings but had no affect, disconected hdmi cable and linked tv and computer through VGA cable instead no affect still the same.

    thank anyway.

just to confirm can anyone tell me if the legacy audio codecs should be present along with the MS HD audio drivers in device manager?

I thought this was the board because of your original post

asus p5q mobo with latest 2209 bios

Have you looked at optional updates from windows update?

    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/261425-12-install-audio-driver

" Make sure Audio is set to AUTO or onboard or ... or whatever the setting might be ... in your setup/BIOS. If it somehow got set to PCI or some other external sound card, it would appear to not accept drivers. CAn't think of anything else, other than adding a PCI card and bypass the integrated sound ciruit. "
  • i got it sorted now in a roundabout way. basically, i installed my realtek drivers, along side microsoft drivers, went into device manager and had unknown devices pop up under others, i knew they were realteks drivers so i right clicked and updated them all and then they got filtered down into sounds game controller 2 extra microsoft driver appeared plus realteks , turned HDMI with audio off in nvidia change resolution setting drop down box, went into my realtek sound panel, device advanced settings, and then under recording devices seperate all input jacks as independant input devices. went into microsoft sound control panel and then disabled all bar my speakers and my microphone. had a fiddle about and it seem now that my realtek drivers operate with microsofts audio drivers too any changes made in one control panel it is set in the other. fiddled with my mic setting and the background noise has gone when i speak and im being picked up as normal.

hope someone who has this problem finds this helpfull in some shape or form thanks for you help.
