LP turntables to USB

Hi All,

I'm thinking of getting an LP turntable to USB - there are loads 2nd hand on eBay etc. and Maplins seem to do a variety of these.

Are these things any good or would the turntable and or pickup quality be rubbish?

Has anyone got one or used one ? If so were they any good and if good what make were they?

Regs., Roy

I haven't used one, but the ones I've seen all look to be pretty poor quality and what I've read tends to confirm that. If you have an half reasonable regular turntable, you'll get better results using that by either feeding the tape/pre out of your amplifier into the line inputs of your audio card, or getting a USB powered phono pre-amp and doing the same, using Audacity to capture the audio.

Failing that, look on eBay for a reasonable quality, non-USB turntable and cartridge.

If you already have a turntable, then you can convert the analogue output into digital and pass it into a computer via USB for recording with Audacity, using one of these:

Thanks, but I don't have a turntable any longer - so one of the USB ones appears to be the best option... if any of them are any good.

Has anyone on here actually got ones of these - I really won't be using it except to convert LPs, not to play them.

The alternative might be an all-in-one turntable and cd burner - but they cost a bomb ... about £250.

But the CDs aren't always available.
