I have a BT phone line and make very few phone calls over it (really just use it for broadband).
Just got my BT phone bill and on 30th June to 1 July there were 6 calls to 0844 8221336 totalling 1 hour 23 mins and costing a total of £5.06
I've no idea what this is. I've checked the numbers called in my phones and this number doesn't seem to be listed in them.
I've done a web search for the number but there doesn't seem to be any significant matches.
Does anyone know what this number is - or have you had this number appear on your own bill lately?

obvious question but is there anyone else the house who may have dialled it? eg kids, wife etc?
otherwise I'd ring BT stating that you haven't done so yourself, nor has anyone else in the household, and ask them to investigate.0 -
Do you have a Fax Eric ?0

What equipment do have plugged in to your phone line ? Sky box, dial up modem, anything similar. That number gives a data tone when called.0

Doh! Yes of course! Sorry to have wasted your time. It's still a bit of a mystery why it used up so much time (and money), so we'll keep an eye on next month's bill.0 -

A burglar alarm is also a possibility.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Sorry to jump in on this.
Have you managed to identify exactly who this data number belongs to??
Where I work has £62 for 653 minutes of calls to this number, but no Sky or alarm connected to telephone line.
We have a barclays card payment machine, but that would not tie in with the op?
