Hi there
I have a small problem.
My notebook computer has a 40gb hdd. However, this is divided into 3 partitions c drive with 19.5gb (7.1gb free space) and called BOOT, D drive with 10.4 gb with 8 gb free and called BACKUP and finally the E drive with 7.29gb (5.27gb free) and called RECOVER.
Now, I have just run the Vista upgrade advisor program and it has told me that I need 15gb for Vista - however my main C drive only has 7.1gb free space. How do I shuffle things to clear space for Vista basic? Obviously I have to repartition the harddrive but i am no confident enough to do this without some advice.
many thanks
(Oh and a belated happy Christmas!)

Hi Mike do you really want Vista ? What is your processor, how much RAM and what GPU has your laptop ....
And as for your signature, if I am drinking from my glass it is half-empty, if a barman is filling it - it is half full...Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0 -
you need something along the lines of partition magic/gparted, backup any important data first, in case it goes wrong

Just to pre-empt what Greennotm is about to say.....
Your laptop is almost certainly no way powerful enough to run Vista. You need at least 2GB RAM and a powerful graphics card (which is unlikely to be found in the average laptop) to run the pretty Aero windows environment, and that's pretty much the only thing Vista's got going for it right now.
Windows XP will be supported for many years, so I'd stick with it.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

I think the absolute minimum to run Aero is 1 GB, but 2 GB should work pretty well. Like 512 MB works pretty well for Windows XP!

I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone upgrade to Vista. Basically, unless you've just bought your machine, you can't really run it.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
