Local computer shop

My son dropped off his laptop for a small repair about two months ago to the local computer shop. They said it would take a couple of weeks, he chased them about 3 weeks later and they said it would be ready by the end of that week.
After that the shop was shut every time we passed and the phone cut off. I found a different number on the internet and myself and my wife left several messages over a period of 4 weeks, none were returned despite our messages getting more frantic.
I then looked them up on companies house and found they company was being dissolved, more worrying was a note saying the owner was banned from being a company director due to the way he had previously run the business (owing loads to HMRC while drawing all the money for himself).
Today as I passed the shutters were up, so I went in and was told the shop was shut and a new one opening over the road under a different name.
I went over to the new shop and found someone who claimed to own the business, but not the old business. I asked for the laptop back and was told they didn't know where it was, the shop was a total mess. I was told I had to speak with the owner of the old shop, who wasn't there and wasn't contactable. Things then got nasty and a woman claiming to be the mother of the original shop owner started telling me to F off.
She then found the laptop, in bits all over a dirty worktop with no anti static protection. She said if I wanted it she would glue it together (what??). It then all got a little ugly with her swearing at me.
What are my rights on this? My sons laptop was in parts all over a filthy workbench, surrounded by dust and junk. It was working when taken in and needed a new power jack inside the laptop. All they have offered back is the laptop glued back together.
It appears the old business has shut with debts and opened under a slightly different name across the road with a new director.

Sadly nothing new, Many people do it. Not much to stop them.
Eventually they may run out of family/pets to name as directors. Spreading the word around that they
are not to be trusted maybe a good move.
But be careful. You dont want to spread malicious rumours that you cannot prove.
Going back a few years a couple of guys used to open a shop, Claim all goods were for export & pay no VAT etc.
As soon as the TAX man queried it they vanished. They opened 3 shops in my area before they moved elsewhere.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

It's worth having a word with Trading Standards as they be able to prevent this type of thing happening to others with the new shop.0
