Ex Display Kitchen & Appliances - Consumer Rights

Hello,

I have just got myself a bargain ex-display kitchen including oven, extractor, washing machine & was wondering where I stood legally if there was a problem. The sales man said its sold as seen no warranty.

What about manufactures warranties would these still be valid?

Your statutory rights cannot be affected - if the goods are faulty, then you have the same rights as if it were a new item. The only things that would be different is if it were something that you could have reasonably noticed before purchased....for example, if the glass on the washing machine were smashed.

Manufacturer or shop warranties are in addition to your rights, and they can put any terms on them. But the majority of those I know don't invalidate the warranty for ex-display items.

Whether a business sells an ex-display, damaged, ex-customer, ex-repair item or new, they cannot claim this stops you having any rights if the item were faulty.

Ex display kitchen appliances are a bit different to ex-display TV's. They have not been on and working while on display so you should still have a reasonably life expectancy out of them, irrespective of what the company says
