Hi all,
Im planning on buying a new computer and have finally decided to buy a Macbook Pro.
At the moment when I look at prices etc, they all come with Snow Leopard OS and I know Lion is due to launch this week - around the 14th.
If I buy my mac as planned on the 16th, will it have Lion built in or will it have Snow Leopard and I will have to pay the upgrade as older users would, or would i get say 30 days to upgrade and have to do it myself?
Or would I be best waiting until Lion is readily avaliable? Would it push the prices up once released?
Hope someone can help, Cant find anything on the net to answer this....

When i bought my mac in 2007 it was after leopard had been announced, prior to it's release. I was advised on registering online and on day of release the dvd of leopard was couriered to my door. the price of a mac is not affected by the change in OS.
You wont have a disc couriered to your door because Lion will be a download through the app store, but if you bought this week, i imagine all the stock in an apple store has snow leopard on it, but as the link above suggests, you'll be able to download for free.0 -
Just be wary before upgrading before you read online what early adopters report about the new system- some OS updates make old programmes versions out-of-date.
I jumped from Tiger to Leopard , lost the ability to run tons of useful programmes I'd bought over many years but gained precisely nothing as far as I can tell.
Ah , just had my worries confirmed; Lion doesn't support Rosetta so that means loads of old software's now obsolete when you upgrade! There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
If i were you i would wait till they ship with the lion disc included.0

It's a free upgrade from the apps store, but you need to register within 30 days of purchase as per link above. I recently brought a new Mac with Snow Leopard on, and the upgrade is a free download. Not that I want to upgrade as all my stuff works in Snow Leopard, and I'm happy with it.
Macs will not be more expensive when the new OS is released, Apple stores will ship them immediately with Lion, John lewis and others will sell their stock running Snow Lepoard first.0
