  • 1080P is very high resolution standard & you would not be able to appreciate any difference from a 720P on a 26" screen.

I belive you need to have 50+" to start apprciating benifits it can deliver & you would need HD media such as movies on BluRay discs or console games that can utilise such high resolution e.g. PS3. Be happy with 720P.

woah 16ms response time no thanks!

I would not let a 16ms response time put you off....it's all relative....I had a cracking little set made by Acer (26" LCD) which had a 16ms response time and I never once noticed any picture drag (or whatvever it's called).

Looks like a good set this one, especially at that price.

IClaudius - you have a PM!

I only need the tv for my home "office" so it's hardly likely to ever get connected to a HD source, and price is the most important aspect, followed by size and then picture quality (yeah go figure!). To be honest I've looked over loads of sets in Currys etc and I haven't found a single set that has what I would consider a great SD/Analogue-sourced image. And that includes the pricey sets too.

Yes OK I admit the source material is poor quality in Currys (one distribution amp for 20 sets) but still CRT's manage better from the same source.

Have just ordered it from Pixmania - fingers crossed it's as good (for the cash) as people have made out!

You'll let us know what you think of it when you've had it a day or two, won't you?
  • this looks remarkably like the 26" Sonix Sainsbury's were selling a year ago for £500. I bought two of those and both went back. The first had a lot of dead pixels and went back within a week, the second died after about 7 months. Hope these ones are better.

bandx - yep I'll give a full review once I get my hands on it. Pixmania's ordering process was fun (not!). Email requesting a scan or fax (to iffy looking international phone number) of a council tax bill or bank statement/utility bill or even driving license. As if I'd send a bank statement over unsecured means! Anyway after scanning and emailing a letter from $ky they phoned me and asked for confirmation of what I ordered, what proof I'd sent and my address.

All to prevent fraud? Think I'll be much happier sticking with "normal" retailers in the future.
  • can someone tell me how to get the £297 price from pixmania please? I don't know where to get the code from either, I want this for a pc monitor bedroom tv. has anyone hooked their pc up to one yet?

I found the code through the PriceRunner site, searching for HannsG JT261. It was listed under the site details for Pixmania.

    bellamy_47 - I've PM'ed you the code direct.
  • For a 26" set, to be worrying about not just whether it takes a 1080i feed, but even a 1080p feed, is rather questioning the gilding on the lily.

There's a good graphic on the HTTV UK website at
    http://wirelessdigest.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/resolution_chart.jpg
where I'm sure we can all argue about its total accuracy, but the jist of it is spot-on, namely unless you're sitting close enough you aint gonna notice!

If you ARE thinking about 1080p quality, you SHOULD in my view be in the realm of a 40"+ display at standard sitting room distances. AND expecting to feed it with a £500-£1000 HD DVD player of one kind or another - ie you are NOT in the market for the cheapest 26" display one can find.
