Our local housing benefit have a form you can ask in principle if a tenancy/rent amount would be allowed before taking on a tenancy. Nothing personal though but I would presume it'll get knocked back, as you are adequately housed, they are paying your (partial) rent for you, and this is just an attempt for family members to gain from you being on benefit. Hopefully the tax payer is protected against it. It's absolutely nothing personal, like I said, I just don't agree with it. It would be different if you were homeless I suppose, but you're not. Just my opinion.
Totally off topic, but Nannytone, if you click the little 'B' at the top when writing your posts, they'll go off bold. I keep thinking there's a revelation coming, and go straight to read it, turns out you're just stuck on bold. HTH0 -

how is this an attempt to gain from being on benefit?????? im still paying my landladys morgage??? nothing different if i moved house and you rented out to me i would be paying your morgage???
potentially i could go to an estate agent cough up nearly 2x monthly rental for both one month up front and deposit plus their credit checks ..admin fees blah blah blah..i dont have nearly 2k to do this at this point in time
surely if you rented yourself and were living in this property with no contact with a landlord/lady -having no idea where u stand legally as u r only just a tenant and have no managing agent ( privately rented) then you may want to move yourself...should it really be down to me to make sure the boiler is checked each year and pay for it... ERM NOOOOO - should it be me who has to pay out of my money to fix things which the landlady is repsonsible for...no again..need i go on?
and i am a tax payer too! - just MY opinion :rotfl:
im not trying to play' its not fair 'card here either - its just annoying that potentially i could have a landlord( inlaws) who i trust and i know if we needed any work doing they would do it and yet i am getting the feeling that some on here think that im trying to do the country out of money for my families gain!!! all i want is a decent sodding landlord lol0 -

Did you read the first line? It was reasonable advice, thought it might help for you to know you can apply in principle before burning your boats so to speak.
Mine was a very gentle post, stating my opinion. I also clearly stated that you weren't getting FULL housing benefit (that's what partial means). Did you notice that either? No. Did I say YOU were gaining from being on benefit? No. I said family member. Have another read if you're not too angry at what you think you read the first time.
If you don't want the opinion of others, here's a thought. Don't post it on an open forum.....0 -

first line i got crystal clear and i actually thought i thanked you for that so sorry :T
i didnt say anything about me getting full housing benefit so im confused why you just put that in - the only thing about your post i had a issue with was 'adequately housed, they are paying your (partial) rent for you, and this is just an attempt for family members to gain from you being on benefit'
ok yes im not been given my marching orders as of yet but i wouldnt be looking elsewhere for property if i thought both myself and my family were 'adequately' housed.0 -
Adequately housed in the councils mind, is different to what we as tenants would hope for though. You're playing with their football, so it's their rules. I'd definitely look for it in writing first before giving notice at your present home. If the inlaws rent out other properties already? it would go some way to show it's a business arrangement, but if this is their first venture into buy to let, it's not very likely you could convince the council it's not a contrived tenancy. I've lived in rented, and it's such an uncertain way to exist at times. I've also rented from a close family member but he was an established landlord already, so different circumstances. I do know how it feels. best of luck.0

My council does not pay HB/LHA if you are renting from family or friend.
Dont know why, i suppose some kind of fraud issue?? Like someone else said family could buy you a house and the council would pay for it for you so you win a nice house for nothing where as benefit is there to give you a roof over your head till you can manage without.Mum of 2 Under 5s

I dont understand why you are paying out of pocket for things like the boiler. Surely if the landlady hasnt been found for years, maybe she would turn up if her money stopped?0

i have tried that before thinking that might provoke a response...nothing. Then went i went to the council to ask about this situation they said that if intentionally stop paying my rent and now get thrown out i have intentionally made myself homeless even though i am trying to get a response... other things i have tried as well is write to the bank in which i pay the money in to the account and get them to forward a letter on to landlady - they refused to do this due to data protection.... been to cab they said pretty much what i have done already
i do have a address but nothing is ever responded so maybe i should venture down south and find where this women is living
im just stuck on what to do ??? i feel like im paying £700 a month in total ( 500 my money 200 hb allowance) yet i have no stability...
put it this way if the place burnt down tomorrow i have no idea who i would need to contact.. ( apart from the household contents insurance and fire brigade...)
i have spoken to the council today and they were pretty helpful - its def not a no at this point ..so fingers crossed0
