Right.

Currently with Eon. Have a smart meter that gives automatic readings etc.

Requested transfer to Npower.

Will Npower be able to read my smart meter automatically like Eon currently, or will it revert to the time being to being a credit meter that is read manually by a meter reader.

Eon have said no because the meter readings from these smart meters go to their data collector and when i moved supplier they wouldn't be able to share this with NPOWER. The data is not collected centrally.

One Npower rep agreed with the above, but after double checking said no it would revert to a normal credit meter as they weren't interchangeable at the moment.

If someone Could give me a straight answer this would be much appreciated.

    Hi notts_phil,

I have spoken to a colleague about this and they have said that at the moment each supplier is using it's own SMART technology.

So if you change from E.ON with an E.ON SMART meter, then the new supplier will treat this as just a normal credit meter and it will need to read and provide readings manually.

This may change in the future, but I'm not sure when etc.

We do have a department dedicated to this and you can always get in touch with them if you need to.

    Hope this helps a bit.

    Helena :)

Great way of preventing serial switchers though-'you want to switch, you'll have to pay for a new meter'?

I think United Utilities are the only one that charge for the meter? I could be wrong though I only came across it once. My understanding is you can switch supplier but it ceases to be a SMART meter. It is annoying that they are all using different set ups, but they're just trials. I don't believe the government has said what is to be used for the roll out so they have to try as many as they can I guess.

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
