Dyson Vac stopped working!

Hi!

Just doing a spot of hoovering and my dyson 01 just stopped working! No funny noise, no loud bangs - just stopped!

I changed the fuse and tried a different power socket but no joy.

Anyone have any ideas on what it could be? I dont fancy splashing out on a new one just yet as this was a decent cleaner!

cheers

  • If you want to check the switch, unplug it at the mains, slide a flat bladed screwdriver down the flat side of the on off switch, and lever it a bit inwards towards the button, this should release a little clip on the button to lift it out. Don't force anything, otherwise you'll break the little clip moulded into the button.

A multimeter/continuity tester is handy to check the cable.

If it's not the cable, I'd suspect the motor, but they usually go up in a puff of smoke.

  • We had problems with our Dyson similar to what you describe.
If the hover just stopped during use (as though someone had unplugged it),it is probanly like mentioned above that it has over heated due to the filters becoming blocked. Does your dyson start again if you leave it off for a short while after it stops or has it stopped permanently?

I used to have similar problems when I worked with a cleaning company. Generally this was due, as others have said, to the cleaner overheating. As stated, cleaning filters and all inlets should cure the problems - if not, maybe the safety cutoff have gone west in which case dyson do a repair service. Hope this helps

Wow! You guys are geniuses - just read your post and tried it and it works!

I'll give the filters a change!

    Thanks a million all!
