Still not dry through the night at 6

Hi everyone, looking for some advice about my son who is 6, he still isnt dry through the night and has to wear huggies night time pants every night, ive tried no drinks after 6pm, getting him up in the night to go to the toilet and i always take him to the toilet before bed but nothing has worked, and he doesnt just do a little bit his night time pants are really full every morning. To make things worse his 2 year old brother is nearly dry through the night now and im worried it will make him feel that its a big issue because he isnt. Also he has been asked to sleep at his friends over the holidays and im scared he will feel embaressed about putting them on when he is there. I dont really talk to him about it because i dont want to make him feel embaressed or worried about it but im really worried about it, from what ive looked up online the docs wont do anything until he is a bit older just wondering if anyone has any suggestions/has been through the same thing?

in every class of 6 year olds there will be at least 2 that are wet at night.. my daughter has been on school residentials with her pull-ups.. don't worry about it.. if he isn't bothered there isn't a great deal you can do about it.
Most children are dry by about 7 or 8.. some a just a it late maturing.
Speak to your school nurse about it.. she may be able to reassure you.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Hi there.
We went through this with our son. Every single night he was soaked through just hours after going to sleep- pull ups couldn't cope! We tried everything, too.
We saw the nurse just a few months before his 8th birthday. She gave us an alarm which attached to his underwear. Gave us such a fright the first night, but literally, within days (or nights!) he was dry.
I know it doesn't help you now though, but it will pass - just costs a fortune in pull-ups!0 -
One of my old boyfriends wet the bed until he was about 14. Eventually he was given some tablets that helped him, but he went to boarding school and he says that there were quite a few lads there that were still taking their bedlinen to be washed daily even older than that.
It happens to some children. My DD did it occasionally up to about 10 years old when she was particularly tired or unwell. Perhaps just a quick question with him - ie, would you like me to mention to xxx's mum that you'll need to get rid of those? - might help.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
My husband still has that problem! And he is 41 !!
Only advice I can give you is have a word with the school nurse, and perhaps his friends Mum if he does go there to sleep.. (Nvr know friend might suffer too).
I was 14 when I stopped bed wetting . ( used to dream I was awake and going to the toilet).0 -
I was 14 when I stopped bed wetting . ( used to dream I was awake and going to the toilet).
I used to do that - would just wake up and realise in the nick of time!
I sort of learned that dreaming about it meant I had to get up and do something about it - went sleepwalking for a few months after I started this, but I stopped by about 8 years old (I think) and was only if I had another kidney infection (got them a lot for some reason as a child).
Sometimes when I'm still very sleepy and in the bathroom, I still stop and make sure that I am awake and in the bathroom before I continue!I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Thanx for all the replies, yes he is the same, sometimes soakes through his night time pants onto his bedding! Ive looked up online about the alarm and it seems it has great success rates so hopefully when he is a bit older we may be able to try it. I have booked a doctors appointment for later today, although i dont think they will do anything yet i just want to let the doc know. Its always nice to know other people have had the same problems and they have been sorted out!0

maybe the night time pants hes wearing arent able to take much have you tried goodnights
lots of kids wet the bed sometimes for no reason so dont worry the doctor may not alwys abe to help
as for the sleep over you should just have a word with the other childs mum im sure shed understand it would be a shame to not let him goReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -
if he out weeing the standard toddler pullups .. we use the pampers underjams as DD regularly out wet hers and these have been so much better.. we stock up when they are on offer which is fairly often.
We had medication, alarms, all sorts and nothing has worked.. she still pees every night. She even slept through the alarm!!!!!!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
best thing i ever did was stop putting my daughter in pull ups at night. She is 4 and was still wearing a pull up until she got too hot one night and took it off. he didn't wet the bed that night and said we wouldn't put one on again. And it's worked!! prob one wet bed a fortnight tho but we have a mattress protector.
She goes to bed at 6.30pm, has a wee before getting in, often gets out for another before going to sleep, i get her out at 9pm and 10.30pm when i go to bed and she's dry overnight. in the last week or so, she has started getting out in the night to go.
I think she thought she didnt need to get out if she had a pull up on0 -
DD1 wet very regularly until just before she was 8, twin1 is only just dry now at 7, they stopped on their own, with being woken and taken to the loo sometimes working but not always. It means a lot of icky washing, just invest in a good waterproof mattress cover. I wouldn't worry yourself too much just yet.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession
