Scottish Power Stitchup

I switched to Scottish Power earlier this year from eON onto the Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 12 tariff.
Following the news of the SP price hike I went to the Energy Helpline price comparison website.
Using consumption figures of 33000kwh for gas and 3300kwh for electricity (Economy 7 - 20 % night use) Energy Helpline came up with a £417 annual saving if I went with Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 14 tariff.
Surprise, surprise as a SP customer I cannot access this tariff but as a rival customer (eg BG) it allows me to take the Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 14 tariff.

"Mr Huhne, a Liberal Democrat, urged consumers to go on to energy price comparison sites "and see how much you can save", saying this could be as much as £200 a year per household."

I wonder if these politicians have actually done this and seen the mess that their 'opening' the market has done.

Why can't you access the tariff?
Have you called them to ask to transfer?
A lot of MSE'ers who were on a similar tariff to you have done so already.
... and some of us are waiting, benefiting from the last few weeks of cheap gas before requesting the move.

Edit: if you want to see the approximate effect of not opening up the market, have a look how much more expensive BG standard tariff for gas and your legacy supplier's standard tariff for electricity would cost you ;)
