Whats the highest % savings account?

Hi,

Am looking for a flexible monthly paid % savings account with no minimum payments and no withdrawal penalties. Please advice.

The Egg 5.5% was withdrawn last night.

Alliance and leicester online saver @ 5.35% AER is high however the % is payed annualy. ING Direct gives interest monthly, which I think is a better offer as one has more flexibility over moving money.

I just saw an advert on TV, that HSBC are doing a wooping 8%, I don't know the details of it though! seems a bit dodgy to me :)

The 8% is a regular saver account, ie you pay in a certain amount every month for a year. A string of conditions apply, such as being an existing HSBC customer (or switching to them).

If it's regular monthly savings without complications you're after, give the Halifax a shot, at 7%

Hi newsmonkey, I am currently with ING and the Halifax is alot higher interest, does the Halifax calculate the interest in the same way? Also do they have an online backing system, this is important to me as i can't get out to the bank!

    Cheers

You dont have to wait for the interest - if you want to move then you can close the account and it will be added on.

Dodgy? Maybe. It's only available to HSBC Current Account customers only, and it states 'No partial withdrawals allowed' - i'm guessing this means that at any point in time if you needed to get access to yoru savings they'd want you to take out the whole lot and close the account? Is this the norm?
