iPad, tablet or netbook?

I am facing redundancy and am thinkig of using the opportunity to take an extended holiday. I currently have an iPod Touch with Wifi access (but v small screen) and would ideally like to take something with me that would allow me to get internet access to my emails, play music (covered by the iPod) and read books. I've ruled out a kindle because it is too focussed towards just books.

I'm struggling to decide which is the best option. One thing that concerns me is taking any of the above to the beach to read books....maybe I will have to stick to listening to music on my iPod!

Why not go for a Kindle/Netbook combo?

Kindle £110 (perfectly visible in sunlight)
    Netbook £150

... and still cheaper than an iPad!

If you already have a laptop then go for an ipad but if you don't they get yourself a netbook.

I have a laptop but it is really old and really needs replacing. I would really like an iPad, but I guess I really wouldn't want to take it to the beach. Not that I would take a netbook there either I suppose. Confused, yep I am!!!!

I'll ee what happens this week with work then decide I guess....

I have a netbook which I bought as a second PC to go on Internet whilst not on my main PC which is a desktop. My daughter has an Ipad, which she uses for the same thing. After using both I prefer the Ipad it boots a lot quicker and is easier to use whilst lying on the sofa. I must admit I wouldn’t want either of them as my main PC.

If i didn't already have an iPAd I would consider an Asus Transformer. Had a look at one in Currys the otehr day and I was quite impressed. They didn't have the keyboard in the shop but they have the combo package for sale on-line.

As I said in another thread, one more factor in the equation is the size of the ipad/netbook compared with the hotel safe in your room.

If it won't fit in the room safe it won't be insured, meaning you have to carry it round wherever you go. An ipad or netbook is an ideal target for thieves.

Why not just take your iPod. You are on holiday, sod it and leave the UK and your emails behind.

Thanks for all your comments. I think I will go and have a look at one of the Asus Transformers. Could be the answer, although I would still quite like an iPad. I would probably lock whatever I had in my suitcase if it wouldn't fit in the safe.

Dave>> I will need access to my emails to keep in touch with folks at home as I am thinking about going away for 4-6 weeks. If things go the way I am hoping I will be having a few months off work.

This fall, as Apple says, is a new software upgrade on the iPad, meaning you can do all software updates etc over wifi, meaning you wouldn't need a main computer, although you will still want one (I have an iPhone 4, mac laptop and an iPad, and I still use the MacBook daily....

Anyway, my opinion, and I spend a year looking at the tablets, is buy the iPad.

They are great to use daily, great to type on (I am using it right now), and the battery life is brilliant as long as you don't have the screen brightness turned right up..... The other thing, any other tablet will drop in price, the iPad will too, but nowhere near to the same extent... Apple products hold their value immensely....

    Good luck
