Found some cheaper prices again - first thread updated. If only could get somewhere like John Lewis to price match with the 5yr warranty....anyone know elsewhere that will do this???

Digital Direct have a store in Bolton - but not sure if its a retail store with the product on display and marked up at £1945.00. If this is the case - John Lewis will price match - but will take a few days for them to check out, and also not sure if it will retain the warranty!

I still would not go online for such a massive purchase. What if something goes wrong?! I do the majority of my shopping online, but for something so expensive (and so delicate), I wouldn't take the risk.

I still think that your best best is trying to get John Lewis to price match the KDL46W2000U at Empire Direct, it is £2067.99 + £25. That extra bit of money means you get your five year guarantee, which in itself is worth several hundreds of pounds from any other store.

Where do you live Pricy? Is there a John Lewis nearby?

Nearest store is Bristol....will they price match Empire Direct though as its Internet!???

Just to let you all know, I received a letter this morning stating that John Lewis WILL price match with Empire Direct, although I was advised by phone several days ago that they will not match web prices, only instore prices. Empire do price match their own web prices instore.

However, the letter states that they will sell the TV at £979.99, which is the TV price plus delivery. I have e-mailed back to state that I am able to personally collect the goods from either Empire or JL, and that I wish to have it price matched at £949.99 plus the five year guarantee, and we shall see what happens.

If you don't ask, you don't get!

My advice is to contact John Lewis who will then take all your details and details of the goods you wish to have price matched. They then look into the matter and write and send their response by post.

Good thread this, i'm interested in getting a 40W2000 in the very near future, and this John Lewis 5 year warranty is a bit of a good thing. Just finding the TV at a decent price for them to match is the only problem.

I know the thread is about a 46", but on PRCDirect, the 40" is £1459 and they have stores in Essex, so surely JL could price match this (with them having stores, not being internet based) so it might be worth a look on that site for the 46"er!!

If they do start matching sites, or if anyone fancies a lookie, Digitaldirect are having a sale on TV's, and the 40" there is only £1424.81, the cheapest I have found it, but not sure if the price match would apply to them, as they also charge for delivery.

A major factor in the purchase of this TV for me is paying 0% interest free over a few months. Even as little as 6 would be ideal, but I cant seem to find many places that offer this deal. Anyone know if John Lewis will do this or if they dont offer any finance options?

Alternatively, could you turn around to one of these internet based companies and say

"John Lewis will price match your price, AND offer a 5 year warranty for nothing. Will YOU be able to match this for me, or lose my custom and i'll go elsewhere?"

Anyone have any experience or know if this'll work?

Raised a PM with JL yesterday - can take up to 48 hrs to confirm. Will post the outcome...fingers crossed :-)

Empire direct have stores, and I phoned to confirm - they have them in the Bradford store.

ChrispyPhillips, we tried this on another tv a few years ago, and the general response was that they just couldn't offer a free five years (though some did lower the price of the warranty). Also, the John Lewis 'Partnership Card' offers 0% on purchases for six months (though a hefty APR after that!).

Thanks DMG, I didnt really think any would, but, you never know!

Thank God for JL then, by the sounds of things they'll be doing quite well in the New Year by us MSE's!! Its just a case of finding that 'right price' in the shop for them to price match! January sales, here we come!!!:D
