Looking at buying one of these in the new year.....lets see if we can find the cheapest prices, and best recommended model for value for money....
The two models I'm interested in are:
V: £1499.00 & £9.95 Delivery @ http://www.microanvika.com/product.asp?TXT=INFO&PNO=SON45318
W: £1800.00 & £22.20 Delivery @ http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=49Q9&CategorySelectedId=11229&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11229 - Price obtained by going through Pigsback who offer 10% discount on dabs.com.
*** W also available @ John Lewis who price match bricks and mortar shops and retain their 5 year warranty. JL Bristol price matches Empire Direct Bradford who had the set for £2069.99. PRC Direct also have set for £1980.00 and may be another PM option!
The V Series is also the same price at a few other stores....
The X Model is grey, and to be honest - not fussed on the styling. Anyone seen the V and W models side by side to compare quality. W series seems to be true high def.
Anyone seen any in boxing day sales, or able to combine with cashback sites?

We have just got the 40" W model and it is beautiful. Though I am not too hot on the tech side of things, I know that the W is the only one that is truely HD.
We got ours from John Lewis. They are currently showing as £2895 on their website, but they will pricematch other stores (though not online). Also remember that John Lewis offer a free five year guarantee, whereas 121electricals only offer one year.
We got our W series price matched with Empire Direct. The 46" is on their website at £2067.99 + £25.00 delivery, so John Lewis should match this total price.
I really can't recommend this range enough. To me if you are spending that much money, you might as well get the best you can! xGone ... or have I?0 -
Do you think that John Lewis would price match a Sony KDL32V2000 which is for sale at Empire Direct at £494.99? We are about 20 miles from Empire in Bradford, and could therefore collect, but John Lewis is about 25 miles the other way at the Trafford Centre and they offer a five year guarantee.
What do you think?
EDIT: Not sure what I was thinking off when I stated the TV was £494.99 - it is actually £949.99 - sorry!!!0 -
So I take it no-one has seen any of these in the boxing day sales? Seen one for sale (V model) in my local comet - with 600GBP off!!! WOW I thought - then saw that it was reduced from 2400 to 1800....good of them. Nice 250 wads in their back pocket! To Stooze or Not To Stooze - Theres only one option0

I was forced into having to use Comet when my old Sony TV blew in a storm, and the insurance voucher was for use at Comet.
Would never buy from Comet again - they are soooooo unwilling to do a deal, and when I tried to return a Humax TV because it had an annoying little intermittent blip on sound they stated there was nothing wrong with the TV. Eventally they accepted the TV back, but I had so much hassle that I swore I would never use them again!
Eventually argued with the insurance company to such an extent that they accepted my wishes to purchase where I wanted to purchase - not where they wanted me to purchase - and I received a cheque in place of the voucher.0 -
Loobeylou,
To be honest we were surprised that John Lewis would accept Empire Direct as a price match as there is not one near us, but they did (though they wouldn't do it there and then, took a few days to come back to us). As far as I am aware John Lewis will deliver anywhere in the UK for a relatively small fee, so you should be fine. If there are any probs about using Empire Direct, just PM me and I'll try to find the details of who I dealt with.
Also, I agree, I would never buy from Comet unless forced to.
Pricy147,
I would be amazed if you found a W Series in any sales, they are just too new and too popular. Sad to say, but we have had friends of friends of friends popping in to see ours ... you'd think there was a new baby in the house!
Remember to bear in mind the five year guarantee that you get at John Lewis (and possibly House of Fraser too, if they stock them, not sure?). This will cost several hundreds of pounds anywhere else, and for such a new product as LCD's, I would say it is vital.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I got in touch with John Lewis at the Trafford Centre (Manchester area) late yesterday afternoon. I explained the situation and they said that the staff who deal with price matching were not in until today, and even then it may be a few days before they got back to me - they took all my details. She did make a point of stating that John Lewis do not match online deals, but I explained that Empire Direct will price match their online price instore so we shall wait to see what happens.
Would not need to have it delivered - would be willing to take a trip on to the Trafford Centre to go get it. Broad as long I guess, but I don't mind.0 -
You can email JL, for instance Bristol would be Undersales_Cribbs@johnlewis.co.uk
They will reply usually within 24 hours.0 -
I still havent seen a W series in any shops local to me! Not even in the Sony shop!
Is the difference in quality between the V and W worth the extra money? Suppose its only things like the XBOX 360 that would highlight it at the moment! To Stooze or Not To Stooze - Theres only one option0 -

Yes! Yes! Yes! The resolution on the W is 1920 x 1080, and on the V it is 1366 x 768. I was watching the news the other night and could actually see the seams in the backdrop!
I suppose what you are paying for is a future proof tv, or as close to one as you can get.Gone ... or have I?0
