NS&I online password problem

Hi
does anyone else have this problem?
both me and my husband use NS&I banking online occassionally and have started coming across difficulties in logging in.
We both have 6 digit/letter passwords but the site frequently asks us for the 8th letter !!!! after closing down the page and reloading several times it will eventually ask us for a digit between 1st and 6th. i have tried amending our passwords so that they do have 8 digits but it wont recognise our current passwords to activate it (presumably as they only have 6 digits). i have contacted NS&I and had a very pratronising young gentlemen inform me that it is impossible for this to happen as their database is intelligent enough to recognise how many letters/digits there are.
i'm getting very frustrated and feel like taking my money out and putting it somewhere where i have confidence in accessing my account when i want to.
any hints or suggestions would be welcome.
thanks

It sounds like you are going to have to do a password reset - like a lost password. You will probably have to phone them, and although they may do it over the phone, they are more likely to send an activation code by post. Chances are you are not going to be able to login during this time, so make sure you do it at the most convenient time for you.0
