how to manually tune a renault car radio!!!

Not a techie question-more of a 'I'm really stupid question!! I have bought my hubby one of those fm transmitter things for his car and need to manually tune a radio station to the correct frequency but just cant work ot how to do it!!! For instance I would like to tune the FM radio to 88.9- I can get radio 2 88.3 and then it auto jumps to the next available station. there must be some combination of buttons somewhere which allows me to fine tune! Its the original radio fitted in a year 2000 Renault scenic if anyone has the particular model complete with a radio handbook I would be grateful if you were able to copy/scan the maual tuning bit!!

Surely if you switch the device on and then scan on the radio it will find it whatever frequency it is set to unless it is the same frequency as a strong radio station. Can you change the output frequency of the device and try scanning again?

no, its not a s imple as that. I can do it in my car as my radios easier. you tune the radio into one of five fm numbers then choose that one on the device thing and hey presto the ipod plays through the car spakers but so far am unable to work out hor to tune in the renault radio! its s so frustrating. may take it into a local renault showroom and see if they can help!the problem i think is that i cant seem to find out how to manually tune. I can search for stations but the frequencies for the device are ones that stations are not using I guess and the radio just skips over the exact frequency i want and i cant maually get this bit to work
  • my renault megane (w reg) has a remote thingy on the steering wheel.

it has 2 buttons on the top that cycle back and forwards betweem cd/fm/mw

it has a spin wheel for moving between tracks and preset stations etc...

and on the bottom it has a button that changes the tuning between manual tune, auto search and something else which i cant remember. i put it in manual search and go to the frequency i want with the spin wheel then press and hold one of the preset buttons on the main stereo to save it as that number.

    hope yours is similar.

hmm yes mine is similar I must admit, although I did try that yesterday and 'almost' got the exact frequency but it seems to want to jump to the nearest available station. I dont think it may have been in true manual mode although on the radio itself it did say manual tuning. I am obviously just missing something ( a few braincells perhaps!) Thanks anyway! I will try when I am in a not so frustrtaed mindset!
  • Just a quickie....you did have some music playing through the transmitter while you were tuning the radio....didn't you..?

Have you tried any of the other transmitter preset frequencies, to see if they give better results.

yep, thought of that one. I tried in my car and it seems that out of the 5 frequencies you can tune it too one may be much better than another. I managed now to tune it into the renault but havent a clue how but the channel its on isnt great so am persevering to try the other fm frequencies.
