Renovating a property

We are about to buy a three bedroomed detached house which is in a real state of disrepair at a bargain price. We intend to stay there and are not viewing this as a money making exercise.

It needs:

Heating system
Re-wiring
Damp Proof course
New Bathroom and Kitchen
New floor (rotten joists) in one lounge
Complete redecoration
New windows and doors

Money isn't really an issue and I am confident that we can afford the property and renovations but I would like to know whether any grants are available from anywhere to help. We are not on any benefits and earn over the WFTC thresholds so don't expect there to be any assistance but if you don't ask then you don't get!

If anyone has any ideas on how much damp proofing costs then i would be interested to hear - we can't get anyone in to quote until the new year and I am terribly impatient!

Thanks

We've just had a one bed flat rewired and that was £400, likewise central heating was £2k but that included bringing in a new gas supply, windows and doors depends how many and what you are getting but I would say about £5k

    hope that gives a start!

the trouble with grants is that they generally insist on other works being undertaken. If you can afford it do it yourself.

We've just had a Damp & Timber quote for our new house.

Coincidentally, the quote includes DPC on the whole of downstairs including the internal structural walls, a new joist and a new floor for the dining room. It comes to £1400.

However, we have removed the plaster to 1m ourselves and will be arranging the replastering independently, so there is still a fair bit of cost involved in covering the essentials.

I think I'd be happy if I could pull in everything on your list for under £20,000.

    :)
