I may be being a bit thick here, but what is an airport lounge and why do you have to have a discount code? Are they more comfy or something?

Reason I'm asking is that we are flying from Manchester 12th Oct (not sure of the terminal) at 7am, so we have to be there for 5am. We're planning on getting to airport by train so the choice is a midnight or 2am, (SIL has offered to take us to train station and midnight one is obviously best for him) both of which means a long wait at the airport but I was assuming that we would just have to sit/lie on the normal seats - not sure if anything would be open or not. So any information of these other lounges would be grateful.

Thanks HoofeHearted. It does seems lovely, but as it doesn't open till 6am, it doesn't seem worth it on this occasion, but I've saved the site for future use.

Margaret, we went to the Styal lounge this year ( although not as good as escape) at 4am just as it was opening. It was very relaxing and chilled and a good start to the holiday
