You took a risk by contacting the buyer as ebay say very specificly that you cannot contact them about the stars left (if you make sure they don't realise you know what they left you should be OK, otherwise they could report you to ebay).

I know, I made very sure to word it politely though. I said something along the lines of "Hi, I just wanted to check that everything was fine with your parcel, as another parcel I posted on the same day arrived damaged and I wanted to check that hadn't happened to you too" sort of thing. No reference to stars. Both buyers said off their own backs that yes the parcel was fine but they were unhappy with how much I charged, despite it being the postage cost to the exact penny.

The replies I sent back about them not penalising other sellers was worded more tactfully than I posted above - it was more like "I'm so sorry you weren't happy with the postage costs, I think they can be a bit excessive sometimes too - sadly neither myself nor other sellers can do anything about it! This is why I only charge the exact postage, as I want to keep it as low as possible for my buyers. Anyway I'm glad there was nothing wrong with your parcel and thanks for letting me know" ...hoping they get the hint for the future!

    I did something similar :D
Someone left a low star for description and I wanted to find out why, so I told them someone had made a complaint about that product.....

I recently got another low star, 1 star for dispatch, but it was probably the fastest turnaround I've ever done, from paying to delivery, so I'm not going to bother contacting them, not much point, can't do any better.

They said the parcel arrived fine and very happy with the packaging but it had cost too much. I said, "but I only charged the stamp cost". They said "yes but the stamp cost was too much" - !
Unbelievable!! Sellers don't stand a chance with buyers with that kind of mentality!! Whats next? Low DSR's because it rained the day of delivery and the envelope got wet?!?!

I feel for you - I really do!

In this case I feel for you too - why buy online if the postage charges in general are too expensive? Some things aren't worth selling (e.g. hardback books that are only worth a few pennies but cost four quid to post...those now just go to Oxfam) but...that's one of the few situations I'd have to ask them, why bid at all then?

Mind you, with petrol as it is these days and bus fares going up, it now costs me the same - or a pound less, depending on when I order - to buy my groceries at Tesco online as it does for me to go into town and go to the supermarkets there.
