Windscreen chip - should I claim?

My new heated windscreen (fitted only in May) now has a chip on the passenger side. Its quite small, a few millimetres wide and deep.

I currently have 1 year no claims, but was involved in a non-fault accident last year.

My policy has windscreen cover and for a claim with a £10 excess it could be repaired. Policy booklet states no claim discount will not be reduced for this type of payment.

Then, separately under the 'glass section' of the policy it says:
If the glass is repaired rather than replaced a £10 excess will only apply.

Your no claim discount will not be affected by making a claim under this section.

Does this mean that despite making a claim on my insurance, I would still get 2 years no claims at the end of the policy?

As this would be another claim which would need to be declared if I moved insurer, would it be a better idea to just pay to have it fixed myself? (about £85)

Windscreen claims don't cause you to lose no claims. You're supposed to declare replacement the following year though it has never made any difference to my price, not sure they will even be interested in declairing a repair

It depends on who you're with, some (Swiftcover) for example, don't affect your ncd if you make a windscreen claim, but they don't give you the year extra either, eg if you have 2 years, and make a claim, you stay at 2, you don't go up to 3.

    Who are you with?

Get it repaired through the insurance, they state it won't affect your NCD. If you change insurer come renewal time, your renewal notice will indicate your eligibility for NCD and that's all a new insurer needs to see. If the screen breaks or cannot be repaired, it will still be covered by the insurance although a higher excess will probably apply.
Don't even think about the cost of a new heated screen!

It shouldn't affect your ncd, but if you have any reason to cancel the policy, it'll count as a claim, and no refund will be paid.
