Help!

I am looking for some help. I requested British Gas take over my supply of gas and electricity on 21st June on their websaver duel fuel 12 tarrif and I have the dates when they will commense, but this week they announced they are putting their prices up and I don't want to change to them anymore. Is it too late to cancel??

Hi, they usually wait 14 days before contacting the old supplier so if it has passed this stage then it's too late. Just wait a few weeks until the switch happens and then switch again to someone else.
  • It has been more than 14 days since I requested the switch and also the terms and conditions state there is a £30 penatly for coming out of the contract before september 2012! Plus they don't open on a Sunday to ask them!

Hi, not a lot you can do now it's happening.

As I said wait until it goes through and try to recover some of the £30 exit fee by doing your next switch through quidco or topcashback.

For example , at present there is £80 cashback for a switch to npower price protection, although these cashbacks come and go on a regular basis.

I would suggest next time you opt for a fixed or capped rate tariff as per MSE Martin's advice, as you obviously are uncomfortable with paying a variable rate tariff

Hi, again ,just noticed it's £30 per fuel so best thing would be to look out and wait for a really good cashback offer to make up for losing the £60 exit fee.
The only issue might be that by the time the switch goes through all the current best fixed price/capped deals will have been replaced by worse ones.
  • Thats what I thought- 4 weeks ago when I looked it was the best tariff.
    Thanks though :)

It was only 4 weeks ago that MSE Martin warned, following the announcement of SP price rise, that other suppliers would almost certainly follow suit and so recommended again people consider going for a capped or fixed rate tariff
Martin Lewis, MoneySavingExpert.com creator, says: "A rise has been on the cards for months, the only question was when.

"Yet this is a mammoth hike, one of the biggest in memory and will cripple bills for typical households at the worst possible moment.
"And this is the beginning, not the end as gas and electricity companies are like sheep. Where one leads the others follow – expect similar rises for all the big six to be announced within the next couple of months.

"It is worth everyone who can’t afford such rises thinking of doing a comparison and locking into a fixed tariff now before their prices jump too."

With a fix or cap, the price per unit of energy cannot rise during the term of a deal, usually between one and two years.

Remember the other 4 are going to increase so you could in effect do what you have just done, again.

I would recommend waiting till all announce then change.

im on websaver as well, i compared BG fixed price with SP and i was £10 better off with BG.....

    Up to you!
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

Hi ihateyes, I was actually refering to the fact that the best fixed/capped tariffs will be disappearing soon.

If the OP wants a variable tarrif then I completely agree that it would be best to wait until they have all increased their prices.
