Hi, I have just watched a recorded episode of Casualty and it had annoying audio subtitles when the actors were not talking explaining what is happening (like subtitles for the blind). I have no idea how it has happened and therefore no idea how to switch it off...

I have googled but drawn a blank. I am guessing that I have inadvertently hit the wrong button somewhere (or *someone* has...)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance x

Hi,I dont know your Humax model number but a quick google for a Humax manual shows a subtitle button just under a source button beneath a sliding flap ( it isn't marked subtitle ,just a tv screen with a line of dots across) !!! - it may not be your model though.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Having googled further I have discovered that the problem is with the Humax recording box, which is picking up audio descriptions (a sort of talking sub titles) from HD transmissions.

Apparently Humax are aware of the glitch and are working on it. So it seems I just have to be patient :-(

  • Hi, I have a Humax PVR and reading your post did make me laugh, as I've not long had my Humax, and one evening I randomly had audio description on in eastenders lol, I was like, is it suposed to be like this!!!!!
Anyway dont know how I had managed to turn it on, but I figured out by searching through the settings you can turn it off!.

Not sure if its the same for all models, but on mine if you press the Menu button on remote control and on the Settings option you will see Language. Click into this and you will see Audio Description, click on this to Enable or Disable!

    Hope this helps you.

Thanks for this, I'll give it a go.

But from reading other forums it seems that even with AD turned off, some programmes are randomly doing this at the moment... so don't be surprised if it happens again.

I'm just grateful that it isn't just me! :-)

  • Check the audio options, the BBC HD channels broadcast two audio channels, one MP2 that contains audio descriptions and the other AC3 which doesn't. Try and select the latter if you can.
