after a fire in a room

had a fire on my bed from a toy,

the surfaces of the door and cupboard of the room have soot on them, and the room has a smell.

should I pay a fire restoration expert to come and charge £700 for one day, i think he hoses the place down and puts stuff in an oxidation room to cleanse it.

or should I take everything out myself, clean it with soap and water.

Depends, if you earm more than £700 a day it may be worth paying someone while you go to work. Otherwise I'd do it myself.

i should have a go at cleaning it yourself , anything that can't be cleaned chuck , it's still going to be cheaper than £700

Why aren't you claiming on your house insurance.

Also, if a toy has caused the fire, have you gone to trading standards, spoken to the manufacturer/retailer, alerted the papers. Is this something that could happen to the same make of toy with someone elses child?

It's my room, but my father's house and his decision. He does worry about his insurance premium going up I guess. But hopefully he'll consider using the insurance.

I was considering giving the old toy away and plugged it in to make sure it worked.. went downstairs, and that happened. It's not so old actually, only a few years! I plan to call trading standards, they're not open sunday. There is no manufacturer mentioned, it says "made in china". I bought it at a temporary stall inside a shopping center.

I googled stuff it said on the package, like UFO "excitement in the air", and found this company used to sell it, now discontinued. but that's a product page of it with a picture.
