Electrical questions

Can anyone answer the following, please?

1) can plastic trunking be run behind a built in fan assisted oven?

2) How far from a gas hob should an electrical socket be? (vertically, horizontally, diagonally?)

3) How far above a) the floor and b) the worktop should electrical sockets be?

YES

To the right or left- not directly behind

3) How far above a) the floor and b) the worktop should electrical sockets be?
Sockets are usually 6" or so above the worktop (it depends how high the worktop is off the floor

It's all about perspective- it depends on what the socket is used for- if a socket is behind an appliance it doesn't matter the height as it's for a particular purpose

Sockets are usually 400mm-500mm from finished floor level (building regs)

Sockets are above-worktop sockets for things like microwave, toaster etc, but they've been moved from 1200 above floor level to 1050 above floor level, which is about 120 above worktop level, and it just seems rather low (and really ugly!)

With relation to the trunking, I have a built in oven, and I'm having my kitchen re-wired. My main issue is that now there's a load of plastic trunking and some sockets behind it. I'm just worried that with the heat from the oven, it could melt the trunking etc?

In answer:

1 - no problem
2. recommended 300mm horizontally away from hob min
3. floor level 450 mm to bottom of socket, BUT if its not a rewire then I would always match in with the height of the existing ones as long as they were not too low or in the skirting board. Kitchen ones - worktop is normally 900mm, so then you want a good height above this because many sockets now have moulded plugs. The height might also be determined by the size of your tiles - better to have the top or bottom of the socket box lining up with a tile if poss as it means less cutting for the tiler and a neater finish
