Big problems with my laptop

My laptop started running really slow. I tried all sorts to fix it, but ended up reinstalling Win7 and starting from scratch.
However, after about 2 weeks it started running slowly again, so I did a system repair.
After this I noticed the z, / and arrow keys weren't working.
I can't get into safe mode because I can't arrow up to the option on the menu. I can't run a virus scan, defrag, disc check, or any of the normal first options for a slow running machine. I can't download anything that might help because IE and FF just stop responding and I get a BSOD.
So today I decided to reinstall again. Now even that crashes out.
Any ideas anyone?
(If I don't reply tonight, I've gone to bed, but will catch up tomorrow.)
ETA:
Took the keyboard out and checked the ribbon, checked it was the same out of the laptop casing and on a flat surface, and it was still the same.
Also checked the RAM was firmly in place and that was fine too.

Sometimes its the BSOD followed by it restarting. Sometimes it just restarts itself, and other times it just turns off completely by itself.
It's about 18 months old.Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0 -
are you reinstalling using the factory restore partition.
you are still covered by the sale of goods act after 18 months (for hardware faults, assuming no spillages)!!

I'm reinstalling using a new disc.Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0

did it come with a factory restore partition, and if so, have you wiped it? if not, try a reinstall with that
check for tdss/rootkit infection with tdsskiller and malwarebytes.
does it go slow without the battery in?
post a hijackthis log.!!

Sounds like it could be faulty memory or power supply. The OP has tried to reinstall and its crashed, so a HJT log may not be possible. If your memory is in two sticks, take one out and try, if same symptoms then put other in and take the existing one out and try.
Remember to use anti static precautions.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -
Try plugging in a external keyboard, if you have one, to see if you can then use all keys.
If you can, its a hardware problem with either the keyboard or the motherboard.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
If you have blatted it and the problems persist is def hardware based. Do you have a warranty? If so I would use it. In the trade, this sort of behaviour would be fixed with a new motherboard/keyboard/HDD/Memory to rule out all possibilities. You can also use the memory testing facility that comes with windows 7 to check RAM0

Another quick point, is your BIOS firmware upto date?0

I just caught the BSOD as it flashed on just now (I was trying it with no battery attached)
It said something about KERNEL_IMAGE_ERROR_??????
Then a whole page more that disappeared too quickly to read.
Just before that, a message came up saying Windows Explorer has stopped working, and then the screen went black for about 30 seconds.
I haven't got a spare keyboard, I need to find someone with a computer rather than laptop to borrow one.
How do I find out if the BIOS is up to date/how do I update it?
Also can HJT be run from a pen drive? As I can't get a browser to work long enough to download the programme.Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0
