Hi, have had new kitchen now for 6 months. i have a gas hob with drawers underneath. when I open top drawer there is a gas smell, not big smell but not just my nose, others notice it too. Builder who installed it has checked and says there are no leaks and everything is fine but smell still there.. should I worry or is this normal?
thanks

If you can smell gas,you must call them out. Phone mumber is on your bill. Call them NOW0

Don't worry about getting them out and then finding that there's no leak. I did this a couple of years ago and they said that they'd rather have false alarms than have people not phoning and then dying. They don't charge and said that sometimes it's tom cats' smell that is mistaken for gas.0

I wouldn't be happy with this - if you can smell it, there is gas there. That's why it's got the smell.

Is he a competent Gas Safe registered engineer or just a builder/kitchen fitter, in any case if you can smell gas get it checked immediately.0 -
I'd get a second opinion and call out another gas engineer. It takes a lot less than a match/lighter to ignite gas, flicking the switch for your lights is enough to create a spark that could ignite any gas that is present.
Get an engineer out, don't turn any lights on or off.0 -
I would not worry about the house exploding, but I'd get someone out to any suspected leak purely due to the price of gas nowadays0

Try lighting a match. If there's a massive explosion then you probably have a gas leak.0

Too many kitchen companies take changes by installing draws below gas hobs. Get it checked and look into installation a dividing panel below the hob if possible. We’ve had to remove your signature. i personally wouldn't trust a builder to inspect my gas installations , unless of course he is a registered gas fitter as well, i've seen builders pathetic attempts at painting and it's nothing to write home about .
