Windows 7 Starterf vs Home Pro

Thinking of getting a netbook to use when travelling, and noticed that most seem to use Windows 7 Starter as the OS. However, Argos have an offer at the moment of a free upgrade to Windows 7 Home Pro.

As their prices seem to be comparable with other sellers, is it worth going for the upgrade, or does a netbook not warrant the addtional software?

The starter is probably more suitable to a netbook, as less will be running. Search and you can find the particulars.

If you install the home pro, you'll probably want to up the RAM or trim the services. Main functional difference that you'll notice between the two is the ability to change the wallpaper without resorting to 3rd party apps.

If it's a newer netbook with a dual core processor, then go with Home Pro. If it's a single core, then it's no big deal either way IMO.

even dependent on a higher spec. a netbook might find it taxing to run full version Home 7. Starter sometimes comes in for a lot of stick but it actually does the job admirably on a netbook. Personally, I'd stick with Starter on a netbook -- free upgrade or otherwise .

By the way I have win 7 Home Premium running on a dual core Netbook and I have no performance issues whatsoever
