Hi everyone,
Sorry - couldn't figure out where to put this!
I just bought my partner a pair of smart trousers for interviews from williamsandbrown.co.uk and when I signed up, it said I'd get 10% off my first order as a new customer. I thought that was nice of them, and not an unusual gesture for a company to make, so clicked to accept their 'gift'.
It then came up saying "Welcome *my name*, you have £125 available in your personal account to spend here". I then completed the transaction and it said my order has been placed and will be delivered to me - but didn't ask for any of my payment details.
My account now says:
Balance: £20.25 [what I spent on the trousers]
Available credit: £125
You can make a payment using either a credit or a debit card. Please select the appropriate option below.
I don't understand what the point in the credit section is. I'm about to pay the balance so it says 0 again, but I'm just confused about the credit. Are they saying they'll let me spend £125 and pay them back at a later date? If they are, I definitely won't be doing that - I don't like to owe anybody anything, let alone a random company I'm not familiar with.
There is a question mark next to the 'balance' and if you click it, it says:
"About your balance
Purchased items are only charged to your account once you have received them (so may not yet have been added to your balance). However, the value of these items will be deducted from your available credit as soon as you have ordered them. "
I'm confused!!! Are they saying that £20 will come from the available credit bit once I get it? If so, when do I pay that back?
Sorry if this is an incredibly stupid question and the answer is totally obvious!

The post is in the wrong section, but sounds like an error on by the company.0

I know, as said at the start of my post I wasn't sure where to put it!!!
What should I do? Alert them incase they say I need to repay the credit on my account? Hope they don't notice and spend it? (I wouldn't really do this for fear of them charging me!)
I'm just not sure what I should do. I got a bad feeling as soon as I saw it.0 -
You've opened a credit account, by the look of what you've said and the company website.
If it lets you pay now, do that. If it doesn't, check the site again when you receive the product, and pay then. It looks similar to Littlewoods and other catalogues - you can spend up to £125, and they'll take a payment each month until you've paid each item off.
Seems they have quite a sneaky way of doing this, though...unless it's gone through as a credit account by mistake!0 -
Paid what I owed them about 10 minutes ago - don't want to take any chances and end up getting myself into trouble!! I'm terrified of getting into debt, even with something silly like this! You've opened a credit account, by the look of what you've said and the company website.

Can't see why it would have gone through as a credit account, so I assume this is just their sneaky way.
Thanks for the helpful response

Normally you recieve the item and a month later the bill comes in where you can pay the whole amount owing OR monthly instalments.
You will recieve a confirmation email stating you`ve ordered and paid SO keep these in your email for proof just incase but it should be fine.DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

I had an addiction to catalogues and racked up huge debts!
They do try tricks sometimes, i used to pay albeit late then they used to say i hadnt so i`d end up having to pay with charges on top. Had i kept emails and had the sense to show bank staements to prove i had paid i could of saved £`s.
Always best to keep any proof of purchase or returns until its been confirmed you`ve done so by the company in question.DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j
