  • Cheap B&Q have some at half price, eg 500w Pir floodlamp in black or white for £4.16.
Personally I would use this type at the back. and change bulb to 300w when it needs changing. We use the smaller more expensive to buy 150w lamps as our back is not that big. If you need continuous light, overide the pir by switching off then on again, and it will stay lit.

At the front decorative lamps, eg coach lamps seem to be best, but you can use floodlamp(s) as well. Our solution is to have lamps at door on a day/night switch and use low wattage economy bulbs. The lamps are cheaper, for not having a pir and at say 9 or 11watts can be left on.
Some pirs will switch some economy bulbs on and off others wont :-/

    Hi ya
i am an electician your best bet is to get a PIR (passive infra red)which i think you are on about. Obviously the more expensive the better quality light you will get.
the cheap ones seem to blow bulbs quite often!!
