Disney family of 5 from north scotland can it be done mse style?

As the title suggests really...

We are a family of 5, 3 children aged 13(aug) 5 & 1(oct) and we really want to go to Disney at some point, every so often i go online and look at the disney threads, check the official sites when there is sales / offers on but due to our starting location Aberdeen it puts the price right up, was looking at doing it through the sun hols caravan park but once you factor in either driving / flying or train down south to get a ferry or eurotunnel etc it puts a huge amount on to the price

So my question is, can this be done :money: MSE style? What is the cheapest way of going to Disney (land or world)?

We do not have a set budget, and would be looking to save towards it but just now it looks to be way out of our reach :(

  • Well Disneyland will be far cheaper to go to because it's closer.

Considering your distance from the Euro tunnel I would recommend flying from Aberdeen.

I think 4/5 days is about enough time.

You can use skyscanner to compare different airlines and select to view whole year. It seems Sept - Nov is the cheapest time so Oct half term could be a good time to go with children. However your 13 year old will then be classed as an adult.

Flights to CDG Paris are currently about £900 in total.

Then use a hotel comparison site to look for a hotel. Disneyland is usually listed as a separate location (it is no where near Paris city centre). I like alpharooms because you can search for family room by childrens ages. Hotels are from £500 for 5 nights.

Shuttlebuses are also available from the airport for about £200 return and is an hour drive.

A 4 day family park ticket is £513 if you book online.

Your looking at a total of £2200 if done right!

    TOTAL VALUE = £732 :j

if you don't mind the drive, I'm sure it would cost a whole lot less than £1100 to drive there and back wouldn't it? A lot of folk who drive to DLP book a cheap travelodge/premier inn at ashford for the night before the Eurotunnel crossing, and do the same on the way back. Once off the Eurotunnel, you are about 3 hours drive from Disney. You can use Tesco vouchers to pay for the Eurotunnel too.

Our first trips were 2 nights/3 full days in the parks, I prefer 3 nights/4 days though. If you are intending going in school holidays, the cheapest time to go to DLP and stay onsite is in the period January - March each year. I've been to DLP in the Scottish October holidays and it was lovely and quiet (because Scottish schools are off earlier in the month than English/European schools).

There are 3 Sun holiday sites which are pefectly do-able for DLP, so if you can get one of those sites, for your preferred dates, it would definitely be cheaper than a hotel in the area. I guess your biggest outlay would then be your park tickets - have a look at DLRPMagic for ticket/annual pass prices, to give you an idea.

We've been to DLP and Florida. Florida wins hands down every time, i understand you're looking for the cheapest way to do either. Last year we did Florida, 3 weeks, 2 adults, 2 kids (9 and 12), villa, car hire and Virgin flights from Manchester, total was just short of £3000. That doesnt include Disney/Universal tickets of course, and was in June so not in school holidays) I always book through www.floridamousehouse.com lovely lady called Sue, she sorts everything out. (dont be put off by the dated website, she's brilliant) Every villa we've had is fabulous, we never want to come home !!
I paid £1400 through Thomas Cook for a package to DLP for 3 adults and 1 child a few years ago ! It can be done much cheaper than this, we went on Eurostar and i can't fault the holiday but it was only 4 days (plenty long enough in DLP) when you compare it to what we paid for Florida, i feel that it's worth it to save up and go to Florida instead. They don't call it the Magic Kingdom for nothing !
  • . im off to dlp in oct with the sun holidays accomadation for 2 adults 2 children and ferry cost £80 through the sun and dlp tickets are 180 on ebay for 3 tickets (1 child is a baby) but still looking for cheaper. Drive must be cheaper than flights at that price ive driven from norfolk to italy last year and that only cost 500 including petrol ferry and tolls for 2 cars.
looking at http://www.viamichelin.com from aberdeen to disney cost 132 euros which is petrol and tolls which is £117 the only problem is it takes you 13hrs which is is a chore with children but maybe you could get a travelodge £19 half way or try etap hotel to cut it in half? still works out cheaper than £900 plane journey and do remeber if you fly you will need transfers to dlp either hire car or train, bus etc so that needs adding onto the total.

How about sleeper train - preferably Bargain Berth - to London then Eurostar from there.

Alternatively I'd start looking for cheap package holidays to Florida as it may be more cost effective
